Press release: UN Women Beijing+20 event in Berlin urges accelerated progress on gender equality and women’s rights
To mark the historic 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women, and its 20th anniversary this year, representatives from politics, the private sector, civil society and academia came together today in Berlin. The event with German Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Manuela Schwesig, and the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, was held in the Representation of the State North Rhine-Westphalia in Berlin, hosted by the UN Women National Committee for Germany and attended by high officials and other dignitaries.
At the historic Apollo Theatre in New York, UN Women yesterday launched a year-long campaign to spark global dialogue and actions on women’s rights and gender equality. The Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Picture it! campaign commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing which set a path-breaking agenda on women’s rights in 1995.

The launch event of UN Women's global campaign “Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” to mark the 20th anniversary of the World Conference on Women in Beijing, will take place on Thursday, 26 June 2014, from 5–7 p.m. at the Apollo Theater in New York.
UN Women today launched a major campaign in the lead-up to the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the historic Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. A year of activities around the world will aim to mobilize governments and citizens alike to picture a world where gender equality is a reality and to join a global conversation on empowering women to empower humanity.
